Hey there! Welcome to the Colonel By Robotics Club website. Here you can find news about the club, original tutorials, links to helpful resources, and more.

About the club

The Colonel By Robotics Club is a student-led initiative at Colonel By Secondary School in Ottawa, Canada. Our goal is to provide a dynamic environment in which students can learn about robotics and electronics, build their own prototypes, and challenge their problem solving and critical thinking skills. We use a combination of presentations, tutorials, guest speakers, and hands-on lab time to make the learning experience unique and interesting. No prior experience is necessary; if you are interested (and you are a student at Colonel By Secondary School), you can join.

Getting started

The first step to joining the club is to sign up for our weekly email newsletter (below) to keep informed of recent happenings. This contains useful information about upcoming events and interesting topics to follow.

We have meetings every Tuesday in Room 205 (the Design Tech Lab). Normally they consist of mostly presentations and discussion, but we’re trying to transition for it to be more focused on experimentation and discovery and less about theory.

Every couple months, we plan to invite guest speakers from the Ottawa Robotics Enthusiasts and perhaps even from companies, universities or colleges in Ottawa. Stay tuned for details.

Currently we are looking for some members who are willing to donate some of their time and knowledge to become club leaders. This would mean helping the club administration with organizing our supplies and teaching others about robotics. If you are interested, please contact us in person or on the Contact page.

Learning platform

Robotics for the beginner can be quite tricky, so we’ve opted to use the Arduino platform as our interface to research. For the advanced users, we have several more esoteric devices to choose from like the Altera UP2 FPGA platform and the Renesas RX62N.

Funding sponsors

This year we received generous funding from Colonel By’s tech department and the Ontario SpeakUp program.
